Six Festivals to Check Out This Spring

You are lucky you live in Austin, Texas. Not only is it a city full of amazing barbecue, breakfast tacos, live music and sunny days, it is also a city with a festival almost every weekend. Here are some of the best parties and festivals in Austin this spring.


 

Austin Oyster Festival

February 24, 2018

Seahold Lawn

Do you like your oysters fried, grilled, on the half shell, roasted, raw, in gumbo? No matter how you like your oysters, Executive Chef Chris Bauer of Eddie V’s presents Gulf and East Coast oysters prepared in nearly every way imaginable. Stop by Austin Oyster Festival to get your fill of oysters, Bloody Marys and some live Cajun and Bluegrass Music. The event benefits the Central Texas Food Bank.

 

ABC Kite Festival

March 4, 2018

Zilker Park

Every year hundreds of kids and kids at heart bring their kites to Zilker Park for Austin’s annual kite fest. Starting in 1929 as a simple kite flying contest, the event has grown into one of Austin’s most beloved family-friendly events complete with two-mile fun run, a make-your-own-kite workshop, rock climbing, bungee jumping, tons of food and, of course, a kite flying contest. The event is free to the public.

 

South By Southwest

March 9 – 19, 2018

South by Southwest is the granddaddy of all Austin festivals. It is the one that brings in 2,000 bands for all over the world. It is the one that attracts keynote speakers like Lady Gaga and President Obama. It is also the one that turns downtown Austin into a madhouse for ten days straight. You don’t have to be a hip badge holder to check out great bands. Several bars, venues and restaurants host live music for free during the festival.

 

Rodeo Austin

March 10 – 24, 2018

Travis County Expo Center

With the slogan, “When Weird Meets Western”, the Austin Rodeo continues Austin’s Live Music Capitol of the World theme by featuring more than 100 live music performances during the 15 day fair and rodeo. Watch Pro Rodeo events such as Bareback Riding, Steer Wrestling and Barrel Racing or hit up the midway with more than 60 carnival rides and games to keep you entertained. And do you know what comes with carnival games? That’s right, funnel cake, kettle corn, cotton candy, corndogs and other favorite fair food.

 

Art City Austin

April 13 – 15, 2018

Palmer Events Center

Every April the Art Alliance of Austin produces the city’s largest art fair and festival. More than 200 local and national artists showcase their work at this family-friendly event. Local food trucks, beer and wine are available for mid-art walk breaks.

 

Moontower Comedy Festival

April 18 – 21, 2018

Various Locations

The Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival brings the world’s funniest, wittiest and oddest comics to Austin. National headliners, up-and-comers and local Austin-based comedians performer over 12 venues in three days. This year’s headliners include Colin Quinn, Janeane Garofalo and Ryan Hamilton.
